According to the 2025 Virtuoso Luxe Report, family travel, celebration travel and active travel will be among the most popular types of vacations in the new year, while demand for wellness experiences will also affect many travelers’ decisions. Mexico is well positioned to satisfy all those interests as new options debut nationwide.

Here are some of the Mexico destinations that are trending for 2025.

Baja California

This region is bound to attract more upscale and wellness-minded travelers with the opening of the Banyan Tree Veya, Valle de Guadalupe, a wellness resort in Baja California’s wine country. Also in the luxury vein is Chable Sea of Cortez, which is scheduled to open in late 2025 in La Paz.

Jalisco

It’s gotten easier to create multi-destination vacations in the state of Jalisco that include big-city excitement with beach vibes, thanks to the new highway that links Guadalajara with Puerto Vallarta (as well as the state of Nayarit). In Puerto Vallarta, Westin is debuting its first all-inclusive resort in Mexico when the Westin All-Inclusive Resort Puerto Vallarta reopens following a major renovation of the previous European-plan property.

Guadalajara, meanwhile, will welcome several new hotels in 2025, including the MOTTO by Hilton Guadalajara Centro Historico, Fairfield Aeropuerto, Indigo Providencia and a new Avid hotel. In addition, Guadalajara recently debuted the Tequila Lab, a museum dedicated to the popular spirit, and in October 2024, the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce and Grupo México Transporte relaunched the Tequila Express, a train that links Guadalajara with the town of Tequila.

Los Cabos

Los Cabos’s ever-expanding number of air routes has made this upscale destination even more popular with travelers from around the U.S. New properties include the Park Hyatt Los Cabos at Cabo del Sol, which is accepting reservations for stays from July 1, 2025, the St. Regis Los Cabos at Quivira, which is located in the popular golf community of Quivira, and Amanvari, an Aman resort on Baja’s East Cape.

Mexico City

Polanco may always be Mexico City’s top go-to neighborhood for a posh hotel stay, but the hip-and-trendy neighborhoods of Condesa and Roma Norte continue to gain more fans among the traveling public, and new hotels are making it easier to use the area as a home base during a Mexico City vacation. Among the newest is Casona Roma Norte, which opened in 2024 as a hotel and culinary hub, set in a beautifully restored building from 1923. Elsewhere, the 26-room Alexander Hotel Mexico City opened in 2024 in the eye-catching Torre Virreyes high-rise, near the upscale neighborhoods of Polanco and Palmas.

Oaxaca

The city of Oaxaca is a magnet for travelers seeking authentic cultural and culinary experiences, and Otro Oaxaca, a new hotel that’s part of the stylish Grupo Habita, provides one of the coolest accommodation options in the city.

Tara Cappel, founder FTLO Travel, says that Oaxaca is ripe for growth. “With experiential, purpose-driven travel set to be a major trend in 2025, travelers heading to Mexico are going to be looking for destinations that go beyond the typical beach resort experience,” she said. “One of those places that will continue to grow in popularity is Oaxaca. It's the perfect experiential destination in Mexico for those looking for a mix of adventure, culture and incredible food.” To that end, her company chose Oaxaca for its newest wellness trip, Mindfulness and Margaritas.

Puerto Escondido

Puerto Escondido is becoming increasingly more accessible for U.S. travelers. For example, United Airlines has announced plans to launch the only nonstop airline service between the United States and Puerto Escondido in 2025. In addition, a new highway linking the coast to the capital city of Oaxaca makes it easier to combine beaches with the interior. These recent developments mean that more travelers are likely to choose this beloved Pacific Coast beach destination.

Among the newest accommodation options is the 45-room Hotel Humano, a luxury boutique beach property in Brisas de Zicatela with a pool and sauna.

Quintana Roo

Mexico’s most popular vacation destination continues to entice with new properties for various traveler types. Hotels slated to open in 2025 include Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres, located near the 498-room SLS Playa Mujeres, which opened in November 2024.

Further south, some airlines are cutting back on service into Tulum’s shiny new airport, but there are still plenty of flights that make it convenient for travelers to reach this Caribbean coastal hotspot. The all-inclusive concept is growing in Tulum, with new options like Trobbu Tulum, a villa rental project that debuts in January 2025. The property features 2,745-square-foot villas and offers experiences including cooking classes, wine-tasting sessions and wellness classes.

Riviera Nayarit

“Riviera Nayarit offers a perfect mix of luxury, nature, and culture,” said Kimberly Denison, founder of Denison Travel, a Virtuoso agency and an affiliate of Brownell Travel. “This stunning stretch of coastline features pristine beaches and lush jungles framed by the Sierra Madre Mountains, creating a strikingly unique and alluring landscape.”

The state of Nayarit also benefits from the new highway that connects Guadalajara with Puerto Vallarta, making it easier for travel advisors and travelers to craft interesting, multi-destination itineraries. New hotels for 2025 include the Rosewood Mandarina, while Milaroca, A Belmond Hotel, is slated to open in 2027.

San Luis Potosi

Travelers looking to explore beyond “Mexico 101” tourist destinations will do well in places like San Luis Potosi, which offers unique attractions like a historic former penitentiary reborn as a spectacular arts center (the Centro de las Artes de San Luis Potosi (San Luis Potosi Center of the Arts), the Museo Nacional de la Mascara (National Mask Museum) and the excellent Museo del Ferrocarril San Luis Potosi (San Luis Potosi Railway Museum). Noteworthy hotels include the City Centro by Marriott San Luis Potosi, located in a historic building downtown.

San Miguel de Allende

Mexico’s most popular small-city destination for luxury travel continues to hone its upscale appeal, with the pending debut of the Clevia, Autograph Collection, San Miguel de Allende and the 120-room Waldorf Astoria San Miguel de Allende, which will have a spa, art gallery, artisan store, children’s club, three restaurants and two bars.
