Mexico reaffirmed its leadership with first place in the North and South American continents and 10th worldwide for the 2023-2024 season, with 108 Blue Flag destinations, following the Second Meeting of the National Jury of Blue Flag destinations.

At this meeting, it was reported that because of the work done by the Foundation for Environmental Education Mexico and the applicant sites, the International Blue Flag Jury ruled as appropriate the candidatures of 108 Blue Flag destinations and, therefore, likely to hold the award for the season 2023-2024.

Thus, Mexico is positioned as No. 10 of 50 countries in the world that operate this program.

Blue Flag Destinations in Search of Sustainable Tourism

Compliance with international criteria and the general provisions of the National Blue Flag Jury will regulate the operation of beaches, marinas, and sustainable tourism boats in the country, seeking to generate an environment of global competition among Blue Flag destinations.

During the meeting, the importance of Blue Flag destinations was highlighted as a tool that adds value to one of the most relevant productive activities in the country, and that is an important basis for internal competitiveness in the international tourism environment and, above all, that promotes the environmentally responsible use of beaches, marinas, as well as the responsible operation of Mexican vessels.

The response to the Blue Flag destination application approved by the International Jury in April 2023 was positive with the following general comments: The International Jury wishes to congratulate the national operator for submitting all the documentation on time. The International Jury congratulates FEE Mexico for increasing the number of sites.

In conclusion, the International Jury, the National Jury, and FEE Mexico award the Blue Flag to the following 73 beaches, two marinas, and 33 sustainable tourism vessels in Mexico for the 2023-2024 season.

The beaches, marinas, and boats of sustainable tourism Blue Flag destinations must, starting next July 1, start their operations for the indicated season; likewise, it is announced that FEE Mexico will deliver the flags that symbolize an environmentally responsible process.

FEE Mexico recognizes the members of the National Jury for their support in the work being done so that the Blue Flag Destination Program continues to grow in the country and that this joint effort is reflected in the preservation and conservation of the spaces and species that enrich the Mexican coastline.

Finally, FEE Mexico announces that the operators of the beaches, marinas, and sustainable tourism boats will have the necessary technical support to maintain the highest standards of operation throughout the season and thus position these Blue Flag destinations among the best nationally and internationally.
