Miami’s 4 Most Mouthwatering Mexican Restaurants
Destination & Tourism Allison Ramirez September 05, 2018

Mexican Independence Day is right around the corner and though Miami isn’t typically known for its Mexican food, we’ve found a few standouts that’ll put other Mexican spots around the country to the test.
People often mistake Cinco de Mayo for Mexican Independence Day, but it's actually September 16th. If you're looking to celebrate, head out for margaritas and Mexican beers, mezcal, flour tortillas and all kinds of meats.
Ranging from fancy fusion to hole-in-the-wall, these four places all have one thing in common: good tacos. Once you visit these spots, you'll be sure to return for seconds.
Diez y Seis on South Beach
The new restaurant at Miami’s Shore Club Hotel, Diez y Seis, is renowned chef Jose Icardi’s newest baby and the casual hip spot—all outdoor seating with an indoor kitchen/bar, twinkling lights, and more. Icardi is reinventing Mexican cuisine with menu items like Cuban tacos, red velvet churros and a mezcal cart on wheels for tableside tastings.
The South Beach staple will be rolling out brunch in conjunction with Mexico’s Independence Day, but it’s also worth splurging on dinner here. The meat selection is serious (think skirt steak, ribeye, rack of lamb and Mexican chorizo) and the chocolate mousse—what a grand finale!—is served with tequila-poached peach.
Taqueria Morelia in Homestead
This taqueria, attached to a gas station, is the perfect place to stop for authentic Mexican food when taking a little road trip from Miami to the Keys. It’s kind of in the middle of nowhere, but even out-of-towners are keen on finding Taqueria Morelia; it’s worth it.
Queso fundido, carne asada burritos and classic tacos are a must here, along with a michelada to wash it all down. The salsa bar here is legit, too. You’ll find all the green and red sauces you’d ever want or need, plus cucumbers, cilantro, radishes and lots of lime.
222 Taco in North Bay Village
A trendy new taco spot in North Bay Village, 222 Taco opened earlier this year and we’re so happy it did. The restaurant, which plays Latin music and serves breakfast all day, has a California vibe and tacos to match.
Order a classic torta, tostada or quesadilla and make sure to try the margaritas, frozen or on the rocks. Other favorites here: the enchiladas divorciadas, the family-style al pastor taco platter and the churro fries. Mexican beers abound, too.
Tacos & Tattoos in Kendall
This family-owned restaurant offers tasty meals and entertainment in a neighborhood that could still use a bit of both. Tucked into a Kendall strip mall, Tacos & Tattoos offers a mix of savory Southwest border food with Miami’s Caribbean comfort.
Try the Cali Love Fries, smothered in cotija cheese and sour cream, and the chicken patacon (smashed plantain) with queso frito. How about some crunchy, fresh chicharrones with lime? Stay a while; karaoke is common here and the restaurant prides itself on showcasing culture and art pieces by local artists.
