A new report found that New York City and Cancun, Mexico,
are the most popular domestic and international destinations for Americans
traveling over Thanksgiving in 2026.
According to a study from Allianz Partners, Orlando,
Florida, ranked second among domestic destinations, followed by Seattle,
Washington; Dallas, Texas; and Phoenix, Arizona.
Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Fort Lauderdale
rounded out the top 10, offering travelers a mix of major cities, entertainment
destinations, and warmer-weather escapes.
For international travel, San José del Cabo, Mexico, ranked
second behind Cancun, followed by Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
London and Oranjestad, Aruba, completed the top five, while
Montego Bay, Jamaica, Paris, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Nassau, Bahamas, and
Mexico City rounded out the international top 10.
In addition, the survey found that 67% of respondents were
traveling primarily to visit family or friends, and nearly 62% cited distance
to loved ones as the most important factor in choosing a destination; the
median insured trip cost was $875.
Around 32% of respondents said they were planning or
considering adding vacation days to their trips, and 20% had already decided to
extend their getaways. Travelers planning extended trips reported a median stay
of eight days, compared with six days for those traveling only for the holiday.
