What are they going to call it instead of a residency? A permanency?
Music superstar Lady Gaga, who rules the charts along with Taylor Swift and Beyonce, wants to make her Las Vegas residency of “Jazz + Piano” at Dolby Live at Park MGM a more permanent thing.
Sort of like Elvis.
Long-running residencies have become de’riguer for Las Vegas, but the city has a glorious past of hosting artists for multiple dates at a time, including Liberace and Elvis.
Elvis, in fact, played 636 sold-out shows at the Old International Hotel in Las Vegas until his death in 1977.
Now it looks like Lady Gaga wants to mimic that.
“We’re gonna make a contract. Everybody on this stage will be here forever, we’ll do it. I’m not kidding. I make a lot of jokes on this stage. This is not one of them,” Lady Gaga said during a recent concert in Las Vegas.
Singer Wayne Newton, however, is the unquestioned King of Las Vegas. He has performed in the city almost exclusively since 1963 with thousands of shows. He also lives in Las Vegas.
That’s 60 years for those of you counting at home. Newton has a current residency at the Flamingo Hotel until June of 2024.
Lady Gaga previously had an on-and-off residency in Las Vegas that reportedly made $78 million over almost four years. The residency ended in May of 2022. She is on a current Las Vegas Strip residency that includes shows on September 28 and 30 as well as October 1, 4 and 5.
There has been no comment from any of the Las Vegas Strip hotels about a more permanent show for Lady Gaga.
