Exciting updates have emerged about the much-anticipated "world-first" Wizard of Oz land slated to debut this year at Warner Bros. Movie World, located in Australia 's Gold Coast region. Part of a $40 million upgrade, the colorful new land is set to replace the previous Arkham Asylum area and open sometime in 2024, according to Daily Mail Australia. Its’ being touted as the world’s first Wizard of Oz-themed land.
The upcoming fantasy-themed area promises to immerse visitors in a magical experience, featuring two new family roller coasters alongside thematic elements that transport guests into the enchanting world of “Oz”. According to Theme Park Insider, the land will boast intricate projection mapping, stunning sculptures and captivating facades, all designed to guide visitors along the world-famous Yellow Brick Road.
The park brought in the classic movie’s protagonist Dorothy Gale and her traveling companions, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion to announce the update on social media and give a preview of the construction that’s already well underway. Instantly recognizable settings from the film include Dorothy’s Kansas cabin, the Wicked Witch’s castle and, of course, the Emerald City.
As part of the reveal, Warner Bros. Movie World has unveiled the names of the new roller coasters that are set to thrill park-goers.
- The Flight of the Wicked Witch will introduce a Vekoma Suspended Family Coaster, towering at 62 feet with a thrilling top speed of nearly 42 mph.
- The Kansas Twister will offer an exhilarating experience with its two-track, racing Vekoma Family Boomerang, reaching heights of 72 feet and top speeds of 36 mph.
“This precinct is going to be like nothing we have ever done at Movie World and we are working closely with our partners at Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment to make this one of the most beautifully themed precincts in Australian theme parks,” said Clark Kirby, Chief Executive of Village Roadshow Theme Parks, operator of Warner Bros. Movie World, when the precinct was first announced.
While an official opening date for the Wizard of Oz land has yet to be announced, film enthusiasts can anticipate its debut sometime later this year, promising an extraordinary addition to the theme park landscape that will take guests right Over the Rainbow.
