Travel is going through a quiet yet profound shift.

While the booze cruise and the bottomless poolside bar once defined a getaway, a new wave of travelers is seeking something different: presence.

At the heart of luxury travel is the sober-curious movement: the desire of travelers to re-examine their relationship with alcohol without committing to permanent sobriety.

But in 2026, a high-end mocktail isn’t enough to satisfy this demographic. Travelers aren’t just looking to just cut out the alcohol; they’re looking to add to their itinerary. They’re seeking experiences that replace alcohol with the heightened sensations of nature and rest.

From the jungles of Bali to the high deserts of Utah, here are the destinations leading the way in intentional, alcohol-optional travel.

Rancho La Puerta | Tecate, Mexico

If there is a birthplace for the modern wellness retreat, it’s Rancho La Puerta. Spread across 4,000 private acres at the base of Mt. Kuchumaa, this original fitness resort has been intentionally limiting alcohol for decades, making it a natural sanctuary for the sober-curious.

What makes The Ranch special isn’t a sense of restriction, but rather the abundance of what replaces it. Here, the traditional evening drink is traded for one of over 80 weekly fitness classes or a restorative sound bath.

New for 2026, the resort has introduced a Longevity Track, focusing on healthy aging through movement and grounding lectures. The goal is to help guests translate wellness habits into everyday life, proving that a week without cocktails can lead to a lifetime of better sleep and sharper focus.

Buahan, A Banyan Tree Escape | Bali, Indonesia

For those who feel like alcohol can create a wall between you and your environment, Buahan offers a solution. This resort in the heart of the Balinese jungle has a “no walls and no doors” philosophy, meaning it's designed for raw immersion.

When you take away the barriers of traditional architecture, you find yourself forced into a profound state of presence.

The resort’s Botanist Bar is a masterclass in how to handle the sundowner ritual without the spirits. Instead of gin and tonics, the focus is on house-made kombuchas and tonics infused with foraged ingredients from the resort’s on-site farm.

Guests can also participate in jamu-making workshops where they learn to craft Bali’s traditional medicinal elixirs from turmeric, ginger, and honey. It’s a celebration of Balinese flora that leaves you feeling nourished, rather than dehydrated.

ULUM Moab | Moab, Utah

The buzz in this high desert of Utah doesn’t come from a bottle, but from nature. Moab has become a cornerstone for travelers seeking a nervous system reset, and ULUM Moab offers a luxe, low-distraction basecamp for exactly that.

The signature alcohol-free experience here is Dark Sky Restoration. As a certified International Dark Sky Park, the region offers a level of celestial clarity that is becoming more and more rare. Trading a late-night bar scene for ranger-led night sky programming allows guests to connect with the cosmos in a way that requires mental clarity.

When paired with sunrise hikes and adventure-by-day activities, the focus shifts entirely to the awe of the natural world.

Murrieta Hot Springs Resort | Murrieta, California

Located in Southern California, this resort leans into the science of downshifting the nervous system. While many resorts use alcohol as a social lubricant, Murrieta Hot Springs uses hydrotherapy as a restorative one.

The resort’s circuit includes contrast bathing, sauna rituals, and a unique Kneipp Walk (a specialized water therapy for circulation).

For the sober-curious traveler, the high comes from the endorphin rush of a cold plunge followed by a 104F mineral soak.

What may be most impressive about Murrieta Hot Springs Resort is its commitment to sleep optimization. Developed by a medical director, the resort features sleep-focused rooms with smart beds and medically guided routines, ensuring that you wake up with the kind of energy that no amount of hair of the dog could ever provide.
