As the north finds itself digging out from a huge nor'easter, the mid-winter blues are bound to start seeping in. The best cure for them is to travel. Either you are going to embrace the cold and snow and make your winter activities fun or you are going to escape the cold altogether. Here are a few fine ideas of how to shake those mid-winter blues.
Blue oceans of the Caribbean - Almost Every Cruise Line
There are few cruise lines that don't give you a chance to cruise to the Caribbean. If they don't, they are probably going to Bermuda, which is also a fine place to find blue water. Either way, you should highly consider a trip to the Caribbean to get away from the dreary doldrums of winter.
Puerto Rico, The U.S. and British Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, the Yucatan Peninsula and northern South America are all options to be had and all still a great escape. Because of the cold weather you will not find the best rates of the year but getting deals is typically dependant on how last minute you are purchasing.
Blue Man Group - Las Vegas, Nevada

The Blue Man Group has been a Vegas institution since March of 2000 and has performed at The Luxor, The Venetian and is currently at the Monte Carlo. One of the best reasons to see them is because you are in Vegas! Vegas is a great place to get away from the snow and cold for as the most part it is very temperate. Every once in a great while they will get a cold snap or snow in the valley, the last time being 2008. Take advantage of the cooler weather and walk the strip and visit the outdoor malls. This is also a great time to take in a round of golf without worrying about dehydration.
Cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains - Blue Ridge, GA
Blue Ridge, Georgia is pretty much the southern tip of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The mountain range stretches from northern Georgia all the way north to central Pennsylvania. Blue Ridge does get a little bit of snow and the further north you go, the more snow you'll see, but the views are amazing.
If you are staying in or around the town of blue ridge, make sure to check out the Fightingtown Tavern. It is a great rock bar with local-only craft beer on tap, fantastic food and tons of rock memorabilia on the walls. The Black Bear Beir Garten has a great menu, good beer list and pretzels the size of your head. How can you go wrong?
JetBlue to everywhere - Over 85 Destinations
The heading says it best. If you are lucky enough to be in a town where JetBlue is flying from, you are sitting pretty. Not only are the prices a bit more reasonable, but their entertainment options with seatback televisions in every seat and free DIRECTV make flying that much more easy to deal with. Jet off to places like Aruba, the Caymans, Barbados, Bermuda, Costa Rica, the Dominican and more. Or if shopping helps cure the blues, head on out to Orlando, West Palm Beach or Los Angeles where the weather is almost as good as the deals.
Well there you have it: how to sing the blues without being all upset about it. Keep yourself out of the snow and the cold and enjoy the travel. Where do you like to go in the winter? Let me know in the comments below.
