Honeymoons.com has revealed new research into the latest trends in honeymoons and destination weddings.

When talking about the honeymoon and wedding market in this day and age, people are mainly talking about the Millennial generation, which is solidly entrenched in this market as 18- to 35-year-olds.

Where are they going and what do they want to do? Honeymoon.com's research shows that destinations haven't shifted much but that research, booking methods and what couples want to do during their travels have.

"This average age 18-35 millennial group will spend $3 billion-plus on their honeymoon or destination wedding," said Albert Hartigan, Jr., chief operating officer for Honeymoons.com.

The website research provides some insight into how couples will be divvying up those billions of dollars on their travel spending.

According to the study, 37 percent will spend between $2,500-$5,500 on a seven-night stay.

Couples aren't rushing to get home, either. Forty-two percent will take a honeymoon that is between seven and 10 days long.

The top domestic destinations are Hawaii, Florida and Las Vegas respectively.

While exotic destinations are becoming more and more popular, the top international destinations for couples remain the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe.

Booking periods are also a lot farther out than typical vacations with 63 percent of couples booking between one and six months from the date of their engagement.

One of the ways in which honeymoon trends have transformed of late is the type of vacation these travelers are seeking. All-inclusive resorts are number one with honeymooners and number two is a beach vacation.

Now, active, adventurous vacations are number three for this generation of traveler, and 25 percent are considering a cruise.

Another way in which honeymoons are changing is how they are researched by couples. Eighty percent of travelers will look to social media to research and find information on where to go and what to do. The most popular sites are Facebook, TripAdvisor, Pinterest and Instagram.
