For Valentine’s Day, off-the-grid locations offer a rare kind of romance— quiet, intimate, and removed from everyday noise. Tucked away in remote cabins, desert hideaways, mountain retreats, or ocean settings, these places let couples slow down and truly focus on each other.

With no crowds and nothing but nature around you, love feels simpler, deeper, and more intentional in places that provide moments of special connection.  Here are some destinations to consider.

Bimini, Bahamas

A small island chain in The Bahamas, Bimini is one of the closest islands to the U.S. and known for its crystal-clear water, fishing, diving and laid back, old-school island vibe. Though it’s surprisingly easy to reach, Bimini is remote enough to feel like an escape.

At Resorts World Bimini, days unfold at a hurried pace, from sun-soaked afternoons at Bimini Beach and quiet moments by the resort’s multiple pools, sunset catamaran cruises and leisurely island exploration by golf cart.

Arenal, Costa Rica

The Arenal area (around La Fortuna) itself is fairly developed and popular with visitors due to its incredible beauty, but if you choose the right spot, Arenal can offer secluded, romantic pockets ideal for a couple’s romantic getaway.

Located eight miles outside of northwest La Fortuna and nestled in the largest and most stunning preserve in Arenal, Tabacón Thermal Resort and Spa is the only resort in the area with a natural flowing thermal river and 18 naturally flowing pools varying from 75 to 105 degrees F. As pioneers of thermal tourism and leaders in regenerative tourism in Costa Rica, the resort offers a unique concept of wellness and therapies at the foot of the majestic and lush Arenal Volcano.

Lake Atitlán, Guatemala

Set high in the Guatemalan Highlands, Lake Atitlán is surrounded by three volcanoes, small villages, and shimmering blue water. It’s peaceful, spiritual and slow-moving. Time stretches here as sunrises are soft, nights are quiet, and life revolves around nature and the lake.

Perched above the crystalline waters of Lake Atitlán, Casa Palopó is an intimate, off-grid hideaway where romance unfolds far from the noise of everyday life. The private home, turned boutique hotel offers just 15 individually designed rooms, creating a deeply, personal uncrowded escape. Think relaxing luxurious bath rituals, nights beside outdoor fireplaces, and a traditional blessing ceremony for couples led by a local Mayan shaman.

Big Sur, California

Dramatic cliffs dropping into the Pacific, foggy mornings, warm fireplaces, sunset walks and offering total privacy (if desired), Big Sur is one of those places that feels cinematic, soulful and romantic.

Now with Highway 1 reopened to all traffic, the iconic coastal road can once again be accessed and visitors can choose stays in secluded cabins, cliffside cottages, eco-retreats and luxury lodges. Days here feel slow and intentional and nights are dark, clear and starry.

Koh Yao Noi, Thailand

This peaceful, small island lies between Phuket and Krabi offering a slow-moving lifestyle with no clubs, no crowds, no chaos, only jungle-covered hills, empty beaches, fishing villages and warm sea air. The naturally romantic setting features stunning sunsets over limestone cliffs rising from the sea, swaying palms, candlelit dinners and ocean breezes.

Experiences made for two include private longtail boat trips through Phang Nga Bay, kayaking through mangroves, beach picnics, Thai couples’ massages and sunrise swims. Many resorts are eco-luxury with open-air villas, outdoor bathtubs, and minimal WiFi.

Lapland, Finland

If you’re into cold-weather romance, Lapland offers a quiet, otherworldly kind — think snowy and hushed with forever-stretching forests, lake that freeze into mirrors and soft and blue winter light.

Many couples come to Lapland to stay in ultimate privacy in glass igloos or remote lodges surrounded by forest or snowfields. And what could possibly be better than watching the aurora dance across the sky from your bed or private hot tub, an unforgettable and surreal experience.

Tofino, Canada

Located on Vancouver Island, Tofino is romantic in a wild, soulful way — remote, moody and untamed. Everything in this Pacific coastline setting feels dramatic, with crashing waves, misty mornings, towering trees and long stretches of empty beach.

Especially cozy and intimate especially in the winter, Tofino offers storm-watching romance, crackling fires with wine in hand and nowhere to be. Couples will find limited cell service, only one main road in and out and no big city noise, making it feel far from everything. Stays here in cozy lodges are luxe in a nature-forward way, complete with hot tubs, fireplaces magnificent ocean views and beach bonfires at sunset.

Oaxaca Coast, Mexico

The Oaxacan coast is one of Mexico’s most underrated romantic escapes, attracting artists, writers and those seeking presence. There are no mega resorts here, rather open-air eco-beach bungalows with outdoor showers and hot tubs.

Time revolves around the tides, simplicity, sunset and candlelight dinners under the stars. Stargazing is particularly excellent due to zero light pollution. Visitors will also find long stretches of beach to walk for miles and not see anyone else, seasonal turtle releases and couples massages accompanied by ocean sounds.
