Regardless of whether Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump is voted into the White House Tuesday, Americans will continue to travel with the same fervor in 2017 as they always have, according to a new survey from global travel deals publisher Travelzoo.

The 2016 election cycle has easily been among the most contentious and divisive in American history. Nonetheless it will finally come to an end this week and Americans who may have been hesitant to make plans amid the chaos will be able to once again turn their attention to travel.

Travelzoo's Fall 2016 Travel Trends Survey found that just about two-thirds of Americans will travel just as much in 2017 as they did this year regardless of who wins.

If Clinton wins, nearly 68 percent said they will see no change to their travel plans next year, while 16 percent indicated that they will travel even more with a Democrat in the Oval Office.

In the event of a Trump victory, 61 percent of Americans plan to travel just as much in 2017 as they did this year, while 16 percent also say they will travel even more next year if Trump wins the election.

Despite the encouraging figures, Americans still have concerns about the potentially long-lasting effects of this unusual election cycle, with 69 percent admitting they are worried that it negatively affects how Americans are perceived overseas.

"At a polarizing time, our survey revealed travel is a common ground," Travelzoo's president of North America Michael Stitt said in a statement. "While this election divided many, we find it encouraging that travel has the potential to unify Americans."

When it comes to escaping the election madness, approximately one-third of survey respondents believe Canada has benefited from the election cycle, emerging as a marquee travel destination this fall.
