Summer isn't just vacation season, it's also Hollywood's favorite time of year for filming, which means tourists and movie stars are often intersecting. Find out which cities will give you the best chance to catch some movie making history on your own summer getaway.
Atlanta
Living up to its new title as the new Hollywood South, Atlanta is expected host more than two dozens productions this summer, including the new "Spiderman" movie, starring Tom Holland. Wondering where to go to hear a director yell action? Check into the Marriott Marquis downtown. Not only has the hotel been featured in "The Hunger Games "movies, it's also located in one of the city's busiest filming districts.
Vancouver
If Atlanta is Hollywood South, Vancouver is Hollywood North, making Seth Rogen just one of the many stars who will be summering in Vancouver this year while filming his next movie, "The Something". The city's Gastown District is a favorite filming location, and hangout, for celebs like Rogen. Check out The Pourhouse for a stiff drink and some celeb-spotting the next time you're in town.
Los Angeles
Los Angeles is still the real deal for most movie producers. According to the L.A. Times, Griffith Park tops the list of the most frequented filming locations in Los Angeles. The park's Observatory was first made famous in 1955's "Rebel Without A Cause" and has been featured in dozens of movies and TV shows since. The Griffith Observatory is open daily for tours and some the best views in the city. Plus, you might just see Natalie Portman filming "Annihilation" while you're there.
New York
Is there anything better than NYC is the summer? Hollywood doesn't think so. Tourists in Central Park, Times Square and Battery Park this summer are sure to run into a film set or two. Among the biggest productions hitting the streets of Manhattan this summer is "The Greatest Showman on Earth," starring Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum.
Montreal
Historic Old Montreal often fills in for other cities in movies and TV shows. Last year's NYC-set "The Walk" was filmed almost entirely in Montreal. This summer, be on the look out for Brie Larson and Woody Harrelson filming "The Glass Castle" in Old Montreal.
New Orleans
Like most other cities, New Orleans' popular tourist destinations, including the French Quarter, City Park, and Garden District, are also the most popular filming spots in the city. Watch for Hugh Jackman filming "Wolverine 3" and Michael Keaton filming "American Assassin" before fall descends on The Big Easy.
London
Planning a trip to London this summer? Don't be surprised if you spot a few American movies shooting on the streets around Trafalgar Square. The area's museums, galleries and history make it an ideal backdrop for movies, and the UK's film incentives make the city a worthwhile investment for frugal filmmakers. Back in February the upcoming "Wonder Woman" movie was spotted filming in Trafalgar Square, and we wouldn't be surprised if "Kingsman 2," starring Julianne Moore, makes an appearance in the neighborhood when it begins production this June, too.
Wherever you plan to go this summer, be on the lookout for a big budget production nearby because you never know who you might find!
