For as long as humans have been in existence, we've loved to eat and drink.

Hotels know this and have been coming up with creative ways to help guests do just that.

Whether relaxing inside the hotel lounge after check-in or attending a conference in a hotel ballroom, hotel guests have never had more exciting catering options than they do today.

Here we'll explore five of the most unique hotel catering trends.

Canadian Classics with a Floridian Twist

The Westin Cape Coral's Executive Chef Tim Duque has developed a "secret" menu inspired by the hotel's Canadian general manager. But since the property is located in Florida, Duque has added a unique twist to some Canadian classics, including French fries topped with succulent braised short ribs and a demi-glace sauce topped with scallions.

Eat, Drink Local in Puerto Rico

The Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino's Paired Program is all about setting up guests with the perfect combination of food and beverage.

Dishes offered include chorizo manchego empanadas and Puerto Rican arancini. Local craft beers help bring out even more flavor. And since Puerto Rico is the home of Bacardi, the hotel links guests with mixologists to learn how to make their own drink in mojito class.

Dinner for Breakfast in the Big Easy

As hotel guests grow tired of buffets, the Hilton New Orleans Riverside is cooking up something new. Here, Chef Mark Dayanandan has rolled out a handful of a la carte breakfast options that combine beloved breakfast dishes with ingredients typically reserved for dinner.

Examples include duck confit hash, sweet pea puree morel and mushrooms with a deep friend poached egg.

Let the Cordials Come to You

Elsewhere in New Orleans, the Windsor Court Hotel has introduced its "CELEBRATE!" catering service. Here, the cordial cart is designed to help liven up any event. Equipped with cordials including Grand Marnier, Baileys, Sambuca and Chambord, among others, the cart is sent around the room to guests in need of refreshment.

Kitchens inside both the Waldorf Astoria Orlando and Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek are spicing up the croissant by fusing the flaky treat with other delicious pastries like donuts, muffins and even pretzels.

The cronuts, cretzels and cruffins are ideal for hungry guests short on time early in the day.
