AMResorts announced Tuesday that it would be eliminating the use of plastic straws across its seven luxury resort brands, effective immediately.
The Apple Leisure Group (ALG) company has already started instructing staff members at all 55 AMResorts properties to no longer serve drinks with straws and provide biodegradable options to guests upon request.
As part of the company's continued responsible travel efforts in Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America, the elimination of plastic straws by AMResorts is another step forward in its wildlife conservation and environmental sustainability initiatives.
"AMResorts welcomes thousands of guests annually and knows the power a seemingly simple act can have on protecting the oceans and beaches our resorts call home," AMResorts senior vice president Colette Baruth said in a statement. "Our priority is to provide guests with an unmatched resort experience while maintaining eco-friendly practices in the process."
AMResorts has been supporting responsible travel since launching in 2001, with the company attempting to leave a positive mark on each destination through conservation and local community outreach programs.
