CBRE Hotels, Savills and Coonan's are delighted to confirm that, following an extensive and highly competitive marketing process, the Mallaghan Family and Carton Development Partnership have completed the sale of Carton House Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort to Belmullet Hospitality Group.
On the back of its recent European success and broader experience at such iconic resorts as Pebble Beach, Marriott Sawgrass Golf Resort & Spa, Doral Golf Resort & Spa, and La Quinta Resort & PGA West, Dublin's Pyramid Hotel Group has been selected to manage the asset going forward.
The sale of Carton House Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort represented a once-in-a generation-opportunity to acquire a landmark Irish resort with a rich history dating back to the 12th century. The sales process attracted worldwide attention from a wide variety of investors, including domestic and international property investors, high net-worth individuals, hotel funds, private equity companies and international hotel operators.
Included in the sale is a hotel comprising 165 generously appointed rooms, incorporating 18 suites and extensive food and beverage facilities such as the Linden Tree Restaurant, the Kitchen Bar, Lobby Lounge, the Coach House and the Arch BBQ. The leisure facilities and spa-along with two championship golf courses, state-of-the-art training facilities and pitches-all located on 668 acres of the 1100 acre Carton Estate, also formed part of the sale.
The successful purchaser, Belmullet Hospitality Group, is a family-operated business led by Philadelphia-based John Mullen, founder of Apple Vacations and Apple Leisure Group, who has strong family links to Ireland and County Mayo. This is the company's first venture outside of the Americas, evidencing the strength and attractiveness of the Irish Hotel Market.
