As a native San Franciscan, Carmel-by-the-Sea has always been one of my favorite coastal destinations.

Located about two-hours South, it's a one-square-mile seaside village that effortlessly exudes charm. Its unique European-feel blends seamlessly with a casual, laid-back California vibe, making for an ideal weekend getaway.

They're no chain restaurants, parking meters or street addresses, but rather cozy cottages, boutique shopping, wine tastings, quality dining, sweet shops and cafes, countless art galleries and more.

Not to mention just a short stroll away is the famous Carmel Beach, which boasts white sand and epic sunsets.

Celebrating 70 years in Carmel-by-the-Sea is the Hofsas House Hotel. The first thing you notice about this hotel is its delightful pretty, light pink exterior. It features distinctive Bavarian-inspired décor that includes a playful mural along with various enhancements at the front of the building painted by artist Maxine Albro.

The hotel's one-of-a-kind Bavarian theme adds a distinct sense of playfulness and whimsy to the overall atmosphere of your stay.

The second thing? How genuinely nice everyone who works here is! As a family-owned boutique inn, it prides itself on being hospitable, attentive to guests needs and being family-friendly.

"The Hofsas House has spacious rooms; We want our guests to be comfortable when they're visiting this really special area," says Carrie Theis, the current owner and granddaughter of founder Donna Hofasas. "Our vision is casual European elegance with the warmth of family hospitality. We're blessed to be here."

The hotel features 38 uniquely decorated, spacious rooms, many of which showcase ocean views past the pine trees in the village. Other highlights include fireplaces, kitchens, large living rooms and private balconies depending on which room you're in. Along with a dry sauna, the Hofsas House is one of the few hotels in the area that offer a heated outdoor pool.

One of my favorite perks? The free morning continental breakfast that came with incredibly fresh, sweet pastries from a local bakery. Nothing beats starting your day indulging in flaky goodies and hot coffee on your balcony with a view of the sun rising.

The hotel is conveniently located nearby the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea, making it easy to explore without having to worry about driving anywhere. It's a place where you can truly disconnect. Visitors can walk everywhere without worrying about getting lost and simply revel in the fact that there is a gorgeous town where taking it slow is appreciated. (And moreover, encouraged.)

You can spend all day strolling through the village's shopping district. There are exceptional gift shops, perfumeries, designer and local clothing brands; antiques, spas and even stores dedicated to niche things like music boxes, pipes, Christmas and cowboy boots.

When it comes to dining, there's an endless amount of options. Stop by the Treehouse Café for a delicious meal that combines global flavors like those of Thailand and Mediterranean in a variety of dishes. Or for gourmet sandwiches on the go, swing by 5th Ave Deli and take your food to the beach or nearby Point Lobos State Park for a picnic al fresco.

For desserts, look no further than The Cottage of Sweets, a British-style sweet shop that has been around since 1959 and selling a huge variety of homemade fudge, imported licorice, gummies, chocolates and more. And if wine is your thing, why not do a tasting at the Scheid Vineyards tasting room? Be sure to try their 2015 Late Harvest Riesling if you're into sweet wines. It's divine.

If you have time and decide you want to jump in the car and drive around the coast, consider the famous 17 Mile Drive. Though it costs $10.25, it's a magical jaunt along some of the California coast's most beautiful scenery: cliffs, pristine beaches, rugged forests, iconic golf courses and unparalleled landscapes that can't be seen elsewhere. Highlights include the famed Lone Cypress, the Pebble Beach Golf Course, Fanshell Beach and the Ghost Tree.
