Wyndham Passes 100 Hotel Mark in Germany
The Wyndham Hotel Group has grown its German portfolio of hotels to more than 100, following the recent openings of a further eight hotels across the country in association with leading hotel management company Grand City Hotels. There are now 103 hotels and almost 14,000 rooms under the Wyndham Grand (two properties), Wyndham (seven properties), Wyndham Garden (14 properties), TRYP by Wyndham (28 properties), Ramada (43 properties) and Days Inn (nine properties) brand flags.
Fifty Wyndham properties in Germany opened in 2013 alone, elevating the country to the fourth largest of Wyndham Hotel Group's 68 markets worldwide, following the U.S. (over 5,700 properties), China (over 650 properties) and Canada (about 500 properties). The latest additions in Germany have included a Wyndham Grand in the Bavarian spa town of Bad Reichenhall, along with centrally located hotels in key cities such as Frankfurt, Berlin, Cologne and Duisburg.
Wyndham Hotel Group's partnership with Grand City Hotels also resulted in the opening of the first Wyndham Grand hotel in Austria and the introduction of the TRYP by Wyndham brand to Belgium and the Netherlands. Wyndham Hotel Group also opened a new office in Berlin.
Starwood Enters Slovenia with Four Points in Ljubljana
The Four Points by Sheraton Ljubljana Mons will be Slovenia's first Starwood hotel when it opens this coming June following a renovation. The hotel will be located near city center in the Slovenian capital.
"With a steady increase in international arrivals over the last few years and its strategic location at the crossroads of main European cultural and trade routes, the time is right to enter Slovenia," said Michael Wale, president, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Europe, Africa and Middle East. "Four Points will provide guests with a fresh, new hotel experience at an affordable price point in the country's capital city."
The 114-room hotel will have a a restaurant and bar, nearly 850 square meters of meeting and event space, including a large ballroom, two meeting rooms and three boardrooms, as well as a fitness center and parking facilities.
Planned Chechen Resort Passes Milestone
The long anticipated and highly criticized plan to build a major ski resort in Chechnya got a boost when the Chechen government closed a deal with Northern Caucasus Resorts and Veduchi to build the Veduchi Resort.
Veduchi promises a resort complex comprised of 19 ski trails totaling 18 miles served by eight cable car systems, several hotels at the three- four- and five-star levels totaling 520 rooms as well as an apartment style hotel.
The Chechen press has been skeptical of an enterprise that turns investment away from manufacturing and the foreign press has openly wondered who would choose a Chechen ski holiday over an Alpine holiday as long as Chechen terrorist leader Doku Omarov is on the loose.
