Hotel bookings for the upcoming Independence Day weekend are soaring in preparation for the United States’ 250th birthday, according to new data from HotelPlanner.
The company reports that nationwide hotel bookings for the July 4 weekend have risen 108% compared with 2025, signaling strong travel demand ahead of the country's 250th anniversary.
This momentous occasion is drawing travelers to the historic colonial hubs where the country was born.
Philadelphia, the birthplace of America, has already seen an 81% jump in hotel bookings. Along with its historical pedigree, Philly is also hosting the 2026 MLB All-Star Game days after July 4, as well as multiple World Cup matches. These events are expected to draw large numbers of travelers.
Bookings for Williamsburg have jumped 62%. The area is perfect for history buffs, featuring immersive events like the interactive "1776: The Trial for Independence" and the dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence.
In contrast, Washington, D.C. is seeing a small bump of just 8%. Cancellation rates have also risen from 13% to 17%, suggesting that political uncertainty may be prompting U.S. travelers to hesitate.
