Renowned businessman and Houston native Dan Friedkin has purchased Aspen, Colorado's historic Hotel Jerome through his hospitality investment company Iconic Properties.
Hotel Jerome, an Auberge Resort, was previously owned by Chicago-based DRW Real Estate.
First opened in 1889, the 93-room hotel recently underwent an extensive revitalization in 2012 prior to reopening as an Auberge Resort. Considered Aspen's "crown jewel," Hotel Jerome is one of the city's major landmarks, combining modern luxury with historic character.
The hotel features an American-style bistro, a living room bar and lounge, an Auberge spa and a refreshed J-Bar, an iconic Aspen institution and social hot spot.
The notable purchase comes on the heels of Friedkin's 2013 investment in Auberge Resorts Collection. Friedkin is a majority owner of the collection and currently operates as chairman of the board.
"My family and I have enjoyed many years of visiting and owning residences in Aspen, and it's a very special place to me personally," said Friedkin in a statement. "I could not be more pleased to welcome Hotel Jerome into our investment portfolio. It has an enviable and storied history as a landmark American hotel, and it is most certainly one of the flagship properties of the Auberge Resorts Collection."
"I commend Don Wilson, the Managing Partner of DRW Real Estate, for bringing the Jerome back to glory, and I'm honored to take stewardship of the hotel ensuring it remains one of the great hotels of the United States," he added.
Wilson also provided a statement on the exchange: "We fully support Dan Friedkin and Auberge Resorts in this transition...Under Dan's stewardship and Auberge's management, Hotel Jerome has a very bright future."
Auberge has managed the property since it underwent revitalization three years ago and will continue to under the new ownership.
The Hotel Jerome was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.
