Kimpton Hotels has made its highly anticipated debut in Europe: The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) announced the opening of the Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam on Monday.
The 274-room hotel is the first of many properties the brand plans to open on the continent, with a second hotel slated to open in Paris during 2020.
"Amsterdam as a city is effortless in design, highly diverse and a hotbed of creativity, making it the perfect match for our first Kimpton hotel in Europe," IHG's CEO of Europe Angela Brav said in a statement. "We’ll be bringing Kimpton to Paris next and have big plans for other cities across the continent."
The Kimpton De Witt features nine signature suites housed inside of original Dutch Golden Age buildings as well as a three-story Little House that can be booked by private groups. The signature Penthouse De Witt spans two stories and features a 322-square-foot rooftop terrace boasting views of Amsterdam.
Amenities at the hotel include a fitness center, a complimentary all-day tea station, free VanMoof bikes for exploring the city and luxe in-room toiletries. The new hotel also offers a daily social hour and a Wyers Bar & Restaurant serving up American favorites inspired by Dutch culture.

IHG acquired Kimpton in 2015 and already boasts 675 hotels across Europe. Therefore, it makes sense that the hotel giant would seek to expand the boutique chain in other major markets outside of the Americas.

Last year, IHG CEO Richard Solomons told USA Today his company would let Kimpton maintain the identity that allowed it to be so successful since launching in 1981.
"It’s very important to us that we maintain what has been successful with that brand but help them when we can," Solomons said. "We’re not going to change what makes them special but we will help them grow."
