The construction phase of the Melbourne's Crown Metropol, a new 658-room, AUD $300 million hotel, is now complete. Crown Metropol is scheduled to open in early 2010. One of the world's most famous chefs, Gordon Ramsay, will open his first Australian Maze restaurant at Crown Metropol. Ramsay will also be responsible for the hotel's room service menu. Crown is now able to offer guests, conference organizers and event planners over 1,600 rooms and suites from which to choose. The hotel's design includes a futuristic podium entry, a day spa located on the top floors of the hotel, a sky bar and terrace on level 28, the hotel's highest floor, extensive meeting rooms and a retail precinct showcasing brands previously unavailable in Australia.
In addition to being a hotel, Crown Metropol will also be the site of a AUD $10 million purpose-built learning facility -- Crown College -- that will provide job training and development opportunities for Crown employees. The new Crown College, which includes a training restaurant and bar, will deliver job training across a range of vocations in a real-life learning environment. Crown College will also offer formal qualifications in areas such as leadership and business management, giving employees learning development opportunities unmatched in the hospitality industry, at no personal cost.
The hotel's 658 rooms and suites include 579 hotel rooms, 34 studios, 12 spa accommodation rooms, 32 suites and one apartment-style suite. Suites will have city views while studios will feature views of the bay. The hotel's market mix will be evenly divided among gaming, corporate, leisure and conference guests. Crown Towers' former general manager, Harley Moraitis has been appointed Crown Metropol's general manager. For more information, visit www.crownmelbourne.com.au.
