While Null Stern Hotels took the concept of a room with a view to an entirely new level last year with the rollout of a double bed and two nightstands in the Swiss Alps, the travel experts at New Zealand In Depth have gone a step further to offer what has to be considered the ultimate in outdoor luxury.
But what makes PurePods Ltd's creation so amazing is that guests don't have to be outside to enjoy unobstructed views in every direction, including up at the stars from the comfort of their bed.
Despite being constructed almost completely out of glass the one-room PurePod doesn't compromise on luxury. Highlights include a comfortable bed (with a bedhead made of what else, glass), under-floor heating, a solar shower, dinner and a breakfast hamper.
The best part is that the one-of-a-kind overnight experience is available for just $225 per person per night.
"There is literally nothing to impede your connection with the surrounding landscape," New Zealand In Depth travel expert Paul Carberry said in a statement. "Sometimes you forget that the floors, walls and ceiling are even there, as you look in every direction to see uninterrupted views across the valley, beneath your feet, and above your head."
There are no carpet or curtains in the PurePod so expect to rise and shine with the sun.
The unparalleled views from inside the pod are further enhanced by the fact that PurePods are completely off the grid. There's no television, no Wi-Fi and guests are unlikely to find a cell signal. Fortunately, there's plenty of nature located steps away to explore. Plus, guests will be able to participate in local experiences during their stay, whether it's swimming with dolphins or a gondola ride.
There are currently four PurePods in existence located on private farmland on New Zealand's South Island. Two overlook the Kaikoura Mountain range, one is located on Banks Peninsula and the newest pod opened earlier this year in the hills above the Waipara wine region.
