WHY IT RATES: This exciting transformation will bring world-renowned Nobu standards to the hotel.-Mia Taylor, TravelPulse Senior Writer.

Nobu Hotel Palo Alto is currently undergoing a multi-million-dollar phased renovation, set to debut as an official Nobu Hotel and restaurant in early 2020. Unveiling a completely brand-new hotel following the transformation, it's set to be Silicon Valley's most anticipated hotel opening.

The 73-room boutique property is elevating its facade, reception and arrival experience, wellness offerings, meeting venues and amenities, guest rooms and adding a two-story signature restaurant to reflect the world-renowned standards of Nobu Hospitality with the addition of a 24-hour in-room Nobu dining menu.

"Nobu is known for its exceptional cuisine and is breaking barriers in the industry with Nobu Hospitality," said Andrew Tilley, general manager of Nobu Hotel Palo Alto. "We're excited to bring this globally acclaimed brand to our guests and establish a gateway to Nobu, the Palo Alto way."

Designed by Los Angeles-based Montalba Architects, Nobu Hotel Palo Alto will express subtle contrasts to its urban setting with a new exterior of chiseled stone, textured with waves of cream and gold tones that are washed with light for added dimension.

A crisp, thoughtful plant and sculpture landscape will dot the property's outskirts, both a lush and complementary aesthetic of the new color palette.

The eight-story hotel addresses the evolving needs of Silicon Valley with a new check-in experience set above the bustle of the property's expansive, ground-floor Nobu restaurant, by way of a grand spiral staircase of floating stone treads and a carved teak handrail.

Hotel guests will be welcomed in a light-filled fireplace reception lounge of rich wood floors set against light oak paneling, Crema Marfil stone, and Venetian plaster ceilings with luxurious furnishings like George Nakashima lounge chairs and John Wigmore light sculptures.

Accommodations will consist of plush beds that reflect the tech-mind of Silicon Valley with seamless integration of reading lights, controls and 82-inch television screens, Alexa for smart commands over various fixtures; bathrooms equipped with Barcelona's Natura Bisse bath amenities and Toto Neorest washlet toilets, natural stone vanities and fully illuminated mirrors; floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors with motorized roll-down and black-out Roman shades that allow access to private patios with views of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Hotel guests will also have access to a state-of-the-art fitness studio with top-of-the-line equipment, including Peloton bikes.

On the 8th floor, elevated Ryokan guest rooms will feature an arrival of slatted teak wall paneling curated with unique artwork that alludes to the craftsmanship and distinctive Nobu experience awaiting guests.

High ceilings and cove lighting combine with added acoustics for an enhanced, peaceful and buoyant design. Japanese influences are seen throughout both room types in the bedding and decor with the Ryokan level boasting 90-inch televisions and spacious bathrooms featuring rain shower fixtures and freestanding wood soaking tubs.

Nobu Hotel Palo Alto will also be a destination for meetings and groups with spacious conference and event venues on the second and eighth floors as well as within Nobu restaurant.

The second floor City Terraces will offer solid live-edge wood board room tables that can accommodate eight to 20 people with Eames Executive chairs and exceptional technological resources invisibly incorporated under the table, and conference spaces overlooking an adjacent garden and the central hall.

The eighth, and top, floor of the hotel will house three Ryokan meeting locations featuring commanding views of Stanford University and the surrounding Bay Area foothills while providing extensive Nobu catering capability and premium conferencing technology.
