Oregon's Pacific Reef Hotel is officially a pioneer in the hotel industry.
On Wednesday, the three-star oceanfront resort announced the completion of its Pacific Reef Adventure Theater on Oregon's Gold Beach. The outdoor cinema, which boasts a screen 33 feet wide and 12 feet tall, is the first of its kind in the industry.

This isn't just a projector and some chairs set up outside. The theater's screen features smart-glass that transitions from opaque to clear during the day so that guests can see through it and continue to enjoy ocean views.

Other features include a high-definition projector, sound system and open-air seating.
The theater will offer nightly entertainment that changes with the seasons. And while some guests will be able to see the screen from their balconies, Pacific Reef Adventure Theater showings will eventually be conveniently broadcast to in-room televisions.
"We're thrilled to introduce the Adventure Theater with this one-of-a-kind experience for exploring Oregon's hidden coastal treasures," Pacific Reef Hotel owner Gene Pranger said in a statement. "In an industry that typically struggles to attract occupants during the winter season, Pacific Reef is going above and beyond remarkable accommodations to provide unforgettable entertainment as well."

In addition to the Pacific Reef Adventure Theater, the hotel announced it has successfully installed a high-definition weather camera called the Pacific Reef Whale Cam. The camera provides a live feed of the Gold Beach coastline that users can access to view close-ups of whales and seals.
Like the theater showings, the free feed will soon be broadcast to the hotel's guestrooms.
