Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., in agreement with Italian hotel company Grand Hotel di Como Srl, announced the opening of Sheraton Lake Como Hotel today.
Lake Como's first internationally branded upscale hotel is coming off a host of renovations. The 116-key property now features four newly renovated suites. Italian architect Ruggero Venelli has added natural materials and neutral colors to produce a warm vibe, as well as custom handcrafted furniture from acclaimed Italian designers.
The hotel also includes a Sheraton Fitness enter, two outdoor swimming pools with a Jacuzzi, a private park, two dining venues, and a conference center with 10 modular rooms.
Each modular room can hold between 40-150 people; altogether, the 10 rooms can accommodate up to 1,000 guests.
Italian architect Attilio Terragni was also involved in the renovation process, creating a futuristic multi-functional space called Spazio Como that can host up to 350 people.
The property is also adjacent to the area's renowned Villa Erba Exhibition and Conference Centre.
The two dining venues offer anything from a modern twist to traditional Italian cuisine at Gusto Restaurant to the flavors of South America at Kincho Restaurant-in addition to the Bar Fresco and Sheraton Club lounge.
"With beautiful new guestrooms, impressive culinary experiences and an array of meeting spaces within a spectacular surrounding, Sheraton Lake Como is an excellent addition to the brand's global portfolio," said Dave Marr, global brand leader of Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, via a release. "Located in one of Italy's most sought-after destinations, the property not only strengthens the brand's presence in a top tourism market in Europe, but also puts Sheraton one step closer to its goal of opening more than 150 new hotels over the next five years."
"We believe in the power of the Sheraton brand as well as in the global expertise of Starwood," added Paolo De Santis, CEO of Meta SpA and owner of the hotel. "This strong partnership allows us to meet the expectations of international guests. And by offering business and leisure travelers such engaging brand programming and innovative social spaces, we will only further enhance the global appeal of Lake Como and uphold a leadership position within the hospitality market."
Sheraton Lake Como is surrounded by the Alps, just a short walking distance from the Lake Como shore. Guests can participate in water-based activities and go on boat trips around the lake for an additional fee.
The property also is less than an hour's drive from two key international airports: the Milan Malpensa and the Milan Linate. Alternatively, visitors can travel by train to the Como San Giovanni station, two kilometers from the hotel. Private taxi service is available outside the stop.
Starwood currently has 24 hotels in Italy, representing five of its lifestyle brands: Sheraton, St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, Westin and Four Points by Sheraton.
