Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) has launched a convenient mobile check-in feature at nearly two dozen hotels across the U.S.
The initial rollout includes major cities like Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C., among others.
One of Marriott International's three loyalty programs, SPG was acquired in last year's merger with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. It pioneered mobile keyless entry, which is now available at Aloft, Element & W hotels.
SPG members can take advantage of the new mobile check-in feature right away by downloading the SPG app and booking their stay directly either through the SPG website or app.
The app will ask members between two and three days ahead of their stay whether they want to check in from their mobile device. It will then alert guests when their room is ready on the day of arrival. From there they can head to the front desk to pick up their key.
Guests will receive their folio via email when checking out through the mobile app.
"Mobile check-in is incredibly popular among our Marriott Rewards members with more than 200,000 check-ins occurring each week and that's why we wanted to extend this convenient app feature to SPG members as well," Marriott's senior vice president for global loyalty David Flueck said in a statement.
The hotels currently offering SPG mobile check-in include the following:
The St. Regis Aspen Resort
Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf Hotel
The Gwen, a Luxury Collection Hotel Chicago
Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel, Virginia
The Liberty, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Boston
Sheraton Reston Hotel, Virginia
Avenue of the Arts Costa Mesa, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel
Sheraton Baltimore Washington Airport Hotel
Le Meridien Arlington, Virginia
Sheraton Denver Tech Center Hotel
The Westin Copley Place, Boston
Sheraton Seattle Hotel
The Westin Reston Heights, Virginia
Sheraton Baltimore North Hotel
The Westin Baltimore Washington Airport

The Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites, Los Angeles
Four Points by Sheraton Wakefield Boston Hotel & Conference Center
The Westin Washington Dulles Airport
Four Points by Sheraton Boston Logan Airport

The global rollout of the SPG mobile check-in feature is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.

Marriott plans to introduce Mobile Requests to the SPG app in 2018. This feature will allow members to choose from the most requested services and amenities while also texting special requests directly to hotel staff before, during and after their stay. The feature is already available to Marriott Rewards and The Ritz-Carlton Rewards members at 4,000 hotels.
Marriott is in the process of combining Marriott Rewards and SPG into one, but there's no timetable on when a single program will launch. Flueck told TravelPulse last year that Marriott was "going to let the work dictate the timeline."
"Our focus is to put our members first. I think it'll take us some time to bring the best of both programs together."
