Barbados’ newest boutique premium hotel, The Rockley, reopened
on Wednesday following a full renovation the Rockley Beach district on the island’s South
Coast. The Ocean Hotels Group property features a “a playful new
design and a live-like-a local vibe” on the island’s premiere beach region. Rates
start at $250 per night.
Barbados-based design firm Apple & Iron, designers of
The Rockley’s nearby sister hotel, O2 Beach Club & Spa, conceived the property’s
contemporary design, which celebrates Bajan culture with local sayings inscribed
on throw pillows, images of the island’s iconic bus stop sign, and locally
crafted amenities.
Local artwork is displayed throughout The Rockley. An “Art
for the People” gallery spotlights local artists with rotating installations. A
hand-painted black-and-white mural showcases several iconic Barbados items and symbols, said hotel officials in a
statement.
"We've reimagined The Rockley as an experiential,
culture-rich hotel connecting our guests with the vibrant surrounding
community,” said Patricia Affonso Dass, Ocean Hotels’ CEO.
Added Affonso Dass, “From the cuisine to art and music,
we welcome guests and locals to join us as we showcase and celebrate the very
best of Barbados’ eclectic South Coast.”
A new outdoor covered bar area features a trendy beach
club vibe with daily and nightly entertainment. Nearby, the stylish
air-conditioned interior dining area offers a convenient spot for guests to
enjoy snacks and coffee.
The Rockley also features an upgraded and repurposed reception, pool deck, and communal spaces, including a fully equipped fitness room, play space, and guest hospitality suite, where guests can continue to enjoy the property after check-out and freshen up before heading to the airport.
Hotel operators will introduce a "Dine and
Sign" program enabling guests to visit partner restaurants across the
neighborhood and charge meals to their rooms, according to the statement.
