Thompson Hotels is continuing to expand its reach in North America, with the news that it plans to debut a Miami property, Thompson South Beach, in 2020. Earlier this year, the company announced plans to open a hotel in Washington, D.C.in 2020.
The 150-room property, a newbuild located at 17th St. and Washington Ave., will be equipped with two restaurants, one on the ground-floor level, a bar and rooftop pool.
"Positioned within South Beach's flourishing cultural epicenter overlooking the urban oasis of SoundScape Park, Thompson Hotels is primed for reintroduction into the Miami market," said Jamie Sabatier, CEO of Two Roads Hospitality.
In 2016, Thompson Miami Beach was acquired by Hyatt in 2016 and now operates as The Confidante Miami Beach, Unbound Collection by Hyatt.
Under the creative direction of French architect Rudy Ricciotti, Thompson South Beach is being designed to harmonize with its SoundScape Park landscape and will feature an "undulating exterior," company executives said. Guestrooms will feature floor-to-ceiling windows, and the rooftop pool, restaurant and bar will boast panoramic views.
"We're excited to pair the world-class Thompson Hotels brand, which aligns so well with the vibrancy of South Beach, with the iconic design of the building and the central location of the site," said Ronny Finvarb, principal of Finvarb Group, the project's developer.
"The combination of those factors, plus the food and beverage programing we're considering, will add to the dynamism and character of this great city."
Thompson South Beach will be adjacent to the Frank Gehry-designed New World Center and newly revamped Miami Beach Convention Center.
