Dimitris Kosvogiannis resigned this month as general manager of Jamaica's Melia Braco Village resort, according to local media reports.
The 232-room all-inclusive hotel is owned by the government's National Insurance Fund (NIF), which manages the investment of public pension funds.
Citing "irreconcilable differences with the hotel management company over what it would take for the resort to turn a profit," a Jamaica Gleaner report also says Jorge Martinez replaced Kosvogiannis as the property's general manager June 7.
A Melia Hotels & Resorts spokesperson said Friday that company officials would not comment on the Gleaner report.
Managed and marketed by Melia Hotels under contract with NIF, the Gleaner report describes Melia Braco Village as "NIF's most valuable property in a real estate portfolio valued at around $12 billion in 2017." NIF also previously owned the former Breezes Montego Bay, which recently re-opened as the 120-room Spanish Court Montego Bay.
Kosvogiannis was hired to run Melia Braco Village upon its 2015 opening. At the time, former Jamaican tourism minister Wykeham McNeill said the project represented a fraction of the $470 million hospitality suppliers had invested in Jamaica's tourism sector between 2012 and 2015.
Kosvogiannis led several tours of the property for media, including TravelPulse, during the 2016 Jamaica Product Exchange (JAPEX) conference in Montego Bay.
Designed as a replica of the Jamaican town of Falmouth, the historic colonial city located in Trelawny parish, Melia Bracco village is positioned along a private beach in Jamaica's Rio Bueno district, between St. Ann and Trelawny parishes. The all-inclusive resort features two pools, a full-service YHI Spa, a kids program and picturesque weddings and honeymoon settings.
Accommodations consist of white-washed villas set amidst lush gardens. Culinary options include 876 Prime, an upscale steakhouse; Nikkei, featuring Japanese and Peruvian fusion cuisine and Teppanyaki tables for group dining; and Rasta Pasta, an Italian restaurant serving pasta, pizza, and salad.
