Watch Out Airbnb, Here Comes Moxy

Looks like Airbnb has a little competition.
A new hotel has opened in New York’s Times Square and it’s positioned to attract the same modern travelers who find themselves often opting for accommodations on the planet’s largest home sharing website.
Among the many features offered by Moxy Times Square (created by Marriott) are quick Wi-Fi, co-working spaces, foosball, board games and pet-friendly rooms, according to Lonely Planet.
The property also boasts New York’s largest indoor/outdoor hotel rooftop bar.
Unlike Airbnb however, which is known for luring young travelers into lesser-known neighborhoods, the 612-room hotel is right in the heart of New York City, a fact the property is capitalizing on.
Hotel ads state that the Moxy puts guests “a New York minute from everywhere you want to be.”
Though the rooms are not big or luxurious, they’re not exactly spare either, as many Airbnbs can be. They include walk-in rain showers, flat screen televisions providing access to Netflix and Pandora. There are even some 350-square-foot king suites available.
Beyond the guest rooms, Moxy offers three separate rooftop cocktail bars, two restaurants and an egg sandwich shop. Among the three bars is Magic Hour Rooftop Bar & Lounge, which is designed to be an “urban amusement park,” complete with carousel, mini-golf, and DJs performing each night.
In an attempt to fully cater to that modern travel crowd, the hotel also offers what it calls crashpad rooms, which are merely 120-square foot, $99 rooms designed for those who simply need to crash (as the room name implies) after a big night on the town.
Conde Nast Traveler described the property one of the boldest new hotels in town adding that it’s designed to be a low-cost, high-style bunkhouse for Millennials.

Though this is New York’s first Moxy property, the brand is already established throughout Europe. It is known there for offering small, smart rooms that offer few frills.
Arne Sorenson, president, and CEO of CEO of Marriott International, told Conde Nast there are already deals inked to expand Moxy into 32 more markets across the U.S. including Los Angeles, Chicago, and Miami.
