A man has been arrested after a pair of fires were ignited at the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas Wednesday night.
KTNV reported toasters, towels and other combustible materials were used to set two fires at the five-star hotel.
A fire in the women's bathroom on the hotel's pool deck was reported shortly after 5 p.m. local time while another blaze was discovered in the hallway of the 17th floor. Hotel security extinguished the hallway fire while firefighters put out the restroom fire, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
According to Clark County fire officials, the blazes were intentionally set. The fire on the 17th floor involved a pair of toasters and some towels while the pool deck blaze was confined to two toasters and a combination of combustible items.
The fire activated the hotel's smoke alarms but did not trigger the sprinkler system. No guests were hurt, but one security guard suffered undisclosed injuries as a result of the incident.
Witnesses said the unidentified man appeared to stuff the towels inside the toasters before the fire broke out.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Steve Summers wouldn't rule out the potential that the fires were politically motivated but pointed out that it doesn't appear to be the case "on the surface," per the Review-Journal.
Police and fire officials continue to investigate while the suspect faces charges of first-degree arson and burglary.
Stretching more than 600 feet into the Vegas skyline, the Trump International Hotel features nearly 1,300 rooms spanning more than 60 floors. The hotel has been the site of multiple protests against Donald Trump of late. The President was met by angry employees at the hotel in February 2016 while protesters formed a wall of taco trucks outside the property last fall.
