One of the biggest problems when it comes to international tourism is the lack of respect shown by many travelers to the land they are visiting, and one man took it to another level when he urinated at the top of the Florence Cathedral's famous dome.
According to Chris Kitching of the Daily Mail, security at the Florence Cathedral spotted a 37-year-old Canadian tourist urinating in a porter's lodge at the top of the building and notified local authorities of the situation.
After relieving himself, the tourist made his way down the 463 steps of the building to the square outside the Cathedral, where he was met by the police. The Canadian man told the authorities that there were no bathrooms at the top of the building and that's why he urinated there.
The responding police officers issued the tourist a €400 (roughly $446) fine.
Florence Cathedral's dome is a popular free tourist attraction that was completed in 1436, but it is not the first Italian historical building or artifact damaged or destroyed by the carelessness of tourists visiting the nation.
During this year alone, there have been at least three separate incidents involving misbehaving travelers, including a Japanese woman who wrote her name with an eyeliner pencil in the same Florence Cathedral dome the Canadian tourist was fined for defacing.
There were also other cases that included two tourists breaking a piece off a statute in the city of Cremona while attempting to take a selfie and two American tourists who were arrested for carving their initials into the Colosseum.
