United States President Donald Trump announced Tuesday the travel ban on citizens from Chad was lifted after government officials reported improvements to the security standards in the country.
According to Reuters.com, the six-month review of Chad's security protocols came after the African nation was added to a revamped travel ban list in September. U.S. government officials said the country didn't provide enough proof of the measures taken to stop terrorists from traveling to America.
Trump said in a statement after the announcement that Chad made its passports more secure and became more efficient at sharing information about known or suspected terrorists with U.S. officials.
The removal of Chad from the ban cuts the list to seven countries subject to the travel restrictions, including Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, North Korea and Venezuela.
President Trump said the ban still stands for the seven aforementioned nations due to a lack of "notable or sufficient improvements" to security protocols.
The first two editions of Trump's travel ban were struck down in court, and the Supreme Court will have a decision on the legality of the third version in June.
