The United States Coast Guard detained an MSC Cruises ship
at PortMiami, delaying its scheduled departure and leaving passengers waiting
as authorities conduct an expanded inspection.
According to CBSNews.com, MSC Cruises’ MSC Poesia was detained on
Sunday, November 1, with passengers still aboard as officials work to verify
the vessel’s compliance with international standards and U.S. regulations.
The Coast Guard’s Miami sector is overseeing the inspection,
which has placed the ship’s itinerary on hold. Authorities have not publicly
identified the reason for the detention or detailed any potential violations.
MSC Cruises confirmed the delay to Local 10 Miami, saying the company is cooperating with
authorities while the inspection continues. The cruise line said it is keeping
guests informed about the ship’s anticipated departure, but could not provide
additional details.
The MSC Poesia can accommodate more than 3,200 passengers
and over 1,000 crew members, but it remains unclear how many people are
currently onboard.
The delay could impact the ship’s upcoming port calls, with
passengers awaiting clearance before the 11-night Caribbean and Central America
voyage can get underway.
