A massive fire that engulfed a hotel in downtown Cairo, Egypt has injured more than 70 people, the Associated Press reported.
The fire broke out early Monday morning shortly after midnight and affected several nearby buildings in addition to the hotel. The blaze took crews six hours to extinguish.
No deaths were reported. However at least 74 people sustained injuries, with most suffering breathing difficulties as a result of the smoke.
Citing Egypt's Ambulance Authority, the AP reported that approximately half of those injured were treated on site while the others were transported to nearby hospitals for additional treatment.
An investigation into what caused the fire is already underway.
While authorities don't know what led to the blaze, an Interior Ministry statement confirmed the fire began inside the six-story Hotel Andalusia before spreading to several adjacent buildings.
In addition to the hotel and nearby buildings, dozens of street vendor stalls and small shops were engulfed.
"The whole area caught on fire, including buildings and our stores," vender Ahmed Gamal told the AP. "Everything became a mess."
