Emirates Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Smoke Detected in Cabin, Cockpit

On Tuesday, an Emirates flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Mumbai when smoke was detected in the cockpit and cabin.

According to NDTV.com, Emirates Flight EK652 was en route from Dubai to Maldives with more than 300 people onboard when the pilot contacted air traffic control and informed them of the smoke inside the Boeing 777-300 aircraft.

In addition to clearing the runway at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai to make way for the emergency landing, the Indian Coast Guard also dispatched ships to the sea along the plane's route in case it didn't make it to the airport.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the runway, but the plane made a successful landing and all passengers and crew members were evacuated from the aircraft. There were no reported injuries during the incident.

"Emirates can confirm that … Flight EK652 from Dubai to Male was diverted to Mumbai due to a technical fault," an Emirates spokesperson told Agence France-Presse. "The aircraft has been serviced and will continue its journey to Male with a six-hour delay."
