As travelers prepare for Spring Break, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced the increased implementation of law enforcement personnel and assets to help keep law and order over the coming weeks.

Governor DeSantis revealed that the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) will aid local police in popular Spring Break destinations, including Miami Beach, Daytona Beach, and Panama City Beach.

In total, 17 law enforcement agencies across Florida have requested a total of 140 state troopers to be deployed to their jurisdictions to assist with Spring Break. In addition, FHP will activate 24 Quick Response Troopers in Bay, Volusia, Broward, and Dade counties.

“Florida may be popular for spring break, but it is inhospitable to criminal activity,” Governor DeSantis said. “Florida does not tolerate lawlessness and chaos.”

“I am directing state law enforcement agencies to provide additional personnel and assets to local entities to ensure that they have the resources they need to keep the peace over Spring Break,” DeSantis continued.

One spring break tourism hotspot, Miami Beach, has already launched a campaign to better control the massive crowds that flock to the city each year. In an effort to “Break Up” with recent violence and disruptive behavior, city officials are implementing monthlong security measures.

Miami Beach Police will be out in force, enforcing curfews, parking restrictions, early beach closures, DUI checkpoints and bag searches at the beach, while also stepping up arrests for drug possession and violence.
