Dubbed Winter Storm Lorraine by The Weather Channel, a major storm is dumping snow along the East Coast of the United States, leaving cities like Boston, New York and Philadelphia covered in snow.

The snow is impacting flights along the popular travel corridor, with FlightAware.com reporting that more than 1,100 flights within, into or out of the United States have been canceled, and another 460 have been delayed, as of 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday.

The winter nor'easter is expected to bring powerful wind gusts and heavy snow to much of the region, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and New England, and power outage concerns are still high.

New York is bracing for a major storm that’s expected to arrive on Tuesday morning bringing as much as eight inches of snow and 40-mile-per-hour winds.

Being described as the biggest storm to be headed toward New York in two years, the snow is expected to arrive during the morning rush hour and may impact trains and flights operating in the region triggering delays or all-out cancellations, according to Fox 5.

Flights to and from LaGuardia Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport are all expected to be disrupted. NBC News has also reported that flights at airports in Philadelphia and Boston could also by delayed or cancelled amid the storm.

After starting as rain overnight, the storm will transition to snow in the morning, coming down at a rate of as much as two inches per hour, before tapering off in the late afternoon, according to Bryan Ramsey, a National Weather Service meteorologist.

“We are going to see some gusty winds and with a heavier snowfall that could cause some reduced visibility on the roadway.”

Snowfall of more than 7.3 inches in Central Park would be the most since January 2022, according to National Weather Service records. Locations north and west of New York City may get as much as a foot of snowfall. During the heaviest portions of the storm, visibility will be limited to under a half-mile.
