It only takes one disruptive passenger to make air travel miserable.
Unfortunately for passengers aboard a recent easyJet flight from Bristol, England to Ibiza, a Mediterranean island known for its nightlife, not one, but five British men allegedly spent a majority of the two-and-a-half hour flight abusing the cabin crew, the Daily Mail reported.
The crew members, who became targets after informing the group that they would only be allowed one alcoholic drink each, alerted the flight's captain to the men's behavior.
"This group of lads were sat quite close to the back of the plane. When we got on the plane we were told that we would only be allowed one drink - as is quite normal now," a passenger told the Daily Mail. "But these lads got quite abusive about it. They were abusive to the staff for the duration of the flight, so they reported it to the Captain."
Upon landing in Ibiza on July 1, Spanish police officers boarded the plane and escorted the alleged troublemakers off before letting the other passengers deplane.
"EasyJet carries more than 65 million passengers each year and whilst they are rare, takes all incidents of disruptive behaviour on board very seriously," said an airline spokesperson in a statement via the Daily Mail. "We have a duty to ensure the safety and well-being of all on board," the spokesperson added. "We do not tolerate abusive or threatening behavior on board and always push for prosecution."
The Daily Mail reported the number of alcohol-related incidents aboard planes have increased of late, with the Civil Aviation Authority recording 271 between April 2014 and March 2015, compared to 190 during the same period one year earlier.
