As people prepare to hit the road for the December holiday travel period, two major storm systems are developing across the United States that could impact plans.
According to AccuWeather.com, the first storm system will be traveling through the Northwest on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. From Seattle to central California, experts are calling for heavy snow in the mountains, damaging winds and rain.
As the storm continues to move toward the East, it will be carrying moisture from the Pacific Ocean and dumping snow in areas such as Denver, Minneapolis and Green Bay Thursday. Areas in the southern Plains should be anticipating heavy rain and thunderstorms.
For travelers in the Northeast, the storm system will bring heavy snow for the northern New England states Friday and Saturday, with rain expected from Boston to Washington, D.C. and thunderstorms forecasted for much of the South.

The other storm system which could cause travel headaches is in the South.
Moving through Texas Tuesday and into the Southeast by Wednesday, experts are calling for damaging winds, heavy rain, thunderstorms and possible tornados.
In California, gusty winds are moving in, likely complicating the job of firefighters battling the wildfires in Southern California. The heavy winds could reach 60 miles per hour and will last through Thursday.
