The Most Important Travel Advisories Announced in August

The U.S. State Department issued a plethora of travel advisory updates over the past four weeks, including a handful of Level 1 advisories.

That's awesome news for travelers venturing abroad this fall. Popular places like Aruba, Iceland and Greece are safe and ready to host Americans, according to the experts.

Here's a recap of the most notable travel advisory updates issued this past month.

The Netherlands - Level 2

The State Department updated its Level 2 travel advisory for the Netherlands on August 9, encouraging Americans to exercise increased caution due to terrorism. Visitors are advised to be aware of their surroundings and stay alert in locations frequented by large crowds.

Croatia - Level 1

Croatia continues to gain significant momentum as a premier tourist destination. Those with their sights set on a trip to the Balkan nation will be pleased to know it received a Level 1 travel advisory from the State Department on August 15.

Greece - Level 1

Elsewhere in Europe, the State Department updated its Level 1 travel advisory for Greece on August 15, reminding travelers that the beloved Mediterranean destination remains safe.

Aruba and the ABC Islands - Level 1

Aruba and fellow ABC Islands Bonaire and Curacao remain among the safest destinations in the Caribbean heading into September. Moreover, these islands sit outside the Atlantic hurricane belt so travelers can visit with peace of mind this time of year.

Saint Maarten - Level 1

The Caribbean paradise of Saint Martin and Saint Maarten continues to welcome travelers with open arms. The State Department reissued its Level 1 travel advisory for the destination on August 19, reminding visitiros to exercise normal precautions upon arrival.

Hungary - Level 1

A popular river cruising destination, Hungary is still among the safest places for Americans to explore this fall, receiving a Level 1 travel advisory from the State Department in its most recent update on August 21.

Iceland - Level 1

No surprises here. Iceland, which has been ranked number one on the Global Peace Index for nearly two decades, received a Level 1 travel advisory from the State Department in its most recent update on August 22.

Dominica - Level 1

The Nature Island, Dominica continues to be a safe adventure for visitors to the Caribbean, receiving a Level 1 travel advisory from the State Department as of August 22.

British Virgin Islands - Level 1

Like the U.S. Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands are a safe escape for Americans seeking a Caribbean getaway this fall. The State Department advises that visitors exercise normal precautions when vacatioining in the islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke, among others.

Saint Kitts and Nevis - Level 1

Southeast of the British Virgin Islands, Saint Kitts and Nevis is equally as inviting for autumn travelers, receiving a Level 1 travel advisory from U.S. officials this August.

Saint Lucia - Level 1

The beloved Caribbean island destination of Saint Lucia remains safe for travelers heading into the fall shoulder season. It's one of many countries throughout the region to receive a Level 1 travel advisory from the State Department.

Ireland - Level 1

On August 28, the State Department reissued a Level 1 travel advisory for Ireland, welcome news for Americans planning a getaway to the Emerald Isle this autumn.
