Hotwire mobile users will find a nice little gift in their app in the form of improved functionality and flexibility.
The travel booking service updated its app on Wednesday, offering a few new options to its users that will help when that impromptu trip pops up out of nowhere.
There are now three added features you can utilize: After-Midnight Booking, One-Way Car Booking and Bed-Type Selection.
Each feature brings with it another layer of flexibility to a marketplace that demands such things.
We all know you're the responsible kind of person who plans trips years in advance. But there are times when you are in a city and need lodging right away, even after midnight.
Now you can pop on your phone (Available for iOS and Android) and find a place to crash.
And with the update, you can also pick the type of bed you want and book a car to get out of Dodge the next day. (Something tells us you're in Vegas in this hypothetical scenario.)
Hotwire President Henrik Kjellberg explains the reasoning behind the rollout: "Our mobile platform is a big priority for us because we're all about enabling spontaneous travel and mobile technology is rapidly becoming the primary way people book trips. Nearly half of our hotel transactions in the first quarter of this year came from a mobile device."
Travelers are far more inclined to take a spur-of-the-moment trip and do so all on the device that lives in their respective hands.
Hotwire is tweaking things to meet those exact scenarios.
A press release states that over 40 percent of transactions that take place on its app are for the same location of the user. More remarkably, a third of those trips are booked for that very same day.
The all-powerful app is letting travelers decide when and how they want to travel. And the answer, many times, seems to be immediately.
