Small-group immersive journeys company Explora
Expeditions is expanding into the Northern Hemisphere.
Iceland Expeditions will offer four departures in 2025 taking
travelers through the rugged Southern Highlands of the island nation surrounded
by the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. The eight-day itineraries that host
only eight travelers will explore rarely traveled regions in Explora’s signature
style with carefully planned yet flexible activities.

Explora’s Explorations VP, Sebastián Correa added, “Far from

culture. Our newest Explora Expedition is a rare opportunity to truly explore
one of the world's wildest corners.”
The Explora Iceland Expedition will depart on August 10 and
18 and September 8 and 16, 2025. The journey is also available as a private
experience with a custom date for a small group upon request.
Featured Iceland Route experiences include:
- Þórsmörk Valley- featuring one of Iceland’s
most unique ecosystems with stunning waterfalls and hanging glaciers from Eyjafjallajökull
Volcano, lying entirely under an ice cap.
- Southern Highlands- exploring the slopes
of Tindfjall Mountain, a glacier covering a stratovolcano along one of
country’s deepest canyons and the dark landscapes of Mælifell Mountain and
Myrdalsjökull Glacier,
- Vatnajökull- Europe’s largest ice cap
riddled with hanging glaciers, canyons and extraordinary waterfalls.
- Langisjór, Fjallabak, and Landmannalaugar-
will explore the Laki Volcano region, breathtaking perspectives on Langisjór
Lake, the northern reaches of Vatnajökull ice field, Fjallabak Nature Reserve
and the kaleidoscopic backdrop of Landmannalaugar, one of the most iconic hikes
in the country.
- Þjórsárdalur – the picturesque valley
along the route back to Reykjavik is home to many impressive waterfalls
including Háifoss, one of Iceland’s tallest at 122 meters.
Eight-day expeditions include:
- Overnight accommodations and services in cozy
hotels, remote cabins and choice historic landmarks.
- Sky Lagoon Hot Springs and Sky Lagoon Spa, an oceanside
geothermal lagoon in Kópavogur.
- Expert Explora and local guides including a
professional mountaineer and adventure consultant and a landscape
photographer/natural history cinematographer.
- Transportation between scenic wonders via
overland Super Jeeps.
- All food and beverage and meals.
- Round-trip airport transfers.
- Jacket from 66°North, founded in 1926 by Hans
Kristjánsson to make protective clothing for Icelandic fishermen who braved the
North Atlantic.
