Sri Lanka is seeing a surge in tourism, and tour operators are encouraging visitors to experience some great new opportunities.
Tour operator G Adventures has added a Sri Lanka sailing journey to its offerings in the country, beginning next year. G Adventures made the decision to add the new journey after seeing strong sales in Sri Lanka over the last year. Offering a sailing trip was a natural extension, said Vince Donnelly, global sailing manager for G Adventures.
"We are thrilled to be the first adventure company to help travelers explore Sri Lanka by sea," added Donnelly. "It's a tropical jewel that's still somewhat of a hidden gem and there's so much to experience and learn here."
With sailings taking place on 53-foot catamarans, guests will have the chance to live in comfortable accommodations. The boats are equipped with four double cabins that sleep two people and offer ensuite bathrooms, portholes and pop-up rooftop skylights.
"Our sailing tours will have a G Adventures-trained and local chief experience officer guide onboard, plus a skipper and a cook, so travelers are best able to experience the local culture and flavors while they see the stunning Sri Lankan coastline," said Donnelly.
Though the boat has an onboard kitchenette, a covered area for dining and a sundeck, guests won't be spending too much time there. Highlights of the itinerary include the fort city of Galle, Ussangoda National Park and whale watching.

Sailings begin on February 2, 2018 and are $1,319 per person, excluding airfare. They are easily combined with a land extension, sold as Sri Lanka Land & Sea, which starts at $2,699 per person and extends the journey to 14 days, beginning in Negombo and including a wildlife safari.
The Sri Lanka sailing brings the number of sailing adventures offered by G Adventures to 19 in eight destinations, including British Virgin Islands, Croatia, Cuba, Greece, Indonesia, Montenegro and Thailand.
