Overseas Adventure Travel (O.A.T.), a tour operator providing active journeys for travelers over the age of 50, is increasing the number of spaces it offers to solo travelers.
The company sees the solo demographic as an integral part of its business. More than 25,000 travelers will have traveled alone with O.A.T. between 2017 and 2018, and 85 percent of those travelers are female.
With this in mind, O.A.T. has announced it is upping the number of single spaces offered on some of its most popular journeys, increasing the amount to 500 spaces.
"The demand for solo travel hasn't let up," said chairman Alan E. Lewis. "On our most popular adventures, single room inventory typically sells out for the year within days of promotion-as much as a year to 22 months in advance. By adding more single spaces for 2018, we hope that more solo travelers will be able to see the world more affordably."
The spaces are on some of the tour operators most sought-after adventures such as Sicily's Ancient Landscapes & Timeless Traditions; Tuscany & Umbria: Rustic Beauty in the Italian Heartland; Morocco Sahara Odyssey; Japan's Cultural Treasures, and Heart of India.
These small group journeys take between eight and 16 travelers, with average group sizes around 14.
In addition to the added space for solo travelers on its most popular journeys, there are always single spots available for guests on all O.A.T. itineraries. Trip leaders also work to ensure that all travelers have companions with whom to share meals and free time if desired.
