One of the best aspects of discovering South Africa as a traveler is the inevitable realization that it's just one country in the amazing suite of countries that make up Southern Africa.
The Shongololo Express has been running a quality train experience connecting South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania and Namibia since 1995.
Not a high luxury train like the more prominent African rail brands the Blue Train and Rovos Rail, the Shongololo offers a comprehensive exploration of the region in a series of five separate itineraries.
Goway Travel is currently offering a free Shongololo to every agent that sells a single Shongololo package. The traveling agent can bring a companion who will pay half price.
"The Shongololo is like a hotel on wheels," said Goway's General Manager for Africa and the Middle East Moira Smith. "The train moves by night and the passengers spend their days exploring the countryside. It's really a great way to explore Africa, even if it's not luxurious like the Rovos and Blue Train products."
The 16-day Southern Cross is one of the train's signature itineraries. It goes from Johannesburg to Victoria Falls and visits six African countries. The train brings its own exploration vehicles along for the ride so that passengers can take off directly from the train onto their safaris.
The itinerary visits South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana. Villages, safaris, national parks, historic sites such as Soweto and even a day on a beach and Mozambique, this package has it all.
