The Galápagos Islands lie off the coast of South America, and this volcanic archipelago is an ideal destination for wildlife viewing. Stu Darnley with G Adventures says when people ask him about when to visit this unique destination, he simply answers "anytime."
He says this in confidence, as there is always something exciting to see throughout the year.
The islands are on the equator which means the water and air temperature is almost always the same. If there is a specific type of wildlife travelers would like to view, Darnley encourages them to take note on what time of year is best for viewing that specific species.
For example, December through May is the warm season. This means the visibility underwater is usually good, and snorkelers will have a lot to look at. Hats and sunblock are always a must for this destination, but especially during these summer months.
Other active creatures to keep an eye out for during the summer months are green sea turtles, marine iguanas, flightless cormorants, boobies and flamingos.
A trip during the months of June through November bring milder weather and a better chance of seeing penguins.
No matter which time of year you choose to visit, the Galápagos Islands are filled with many exciting things to see underwater, on land and in the sky. Keep your eyes peeled during your trip, and you'll have plenty to write home about.
