The Egerton House Hotel is the ideal place for a mother-daughter getaway in London. Tucked away on a quiet street in fashionable Knightsbridge, the Red Carnation Hotel is walking distance to some of London's most beautiful attractions and just down the road from Harrods department store, one of the world's best-known shopping meccas.
The boutique property feels more like a home than a hotel. There are just 28 rooms and each one is different. The property is known for its British hospitality - there are two staff to every guests -- and for its award-winning afternoon tea service.
Our room featured an amazing bathroom with a deep soaking tub as well as a gorgeous bedroom with a sitting area. It looked out onto the fashionable neighborhood below, but sounds from the street were only discernable with the window open.
Our favorite parts of our sojourn, in addition to the stylish suites and extraordinary hospitality, was the location. Not only are local attractions easy to reach on foot, but others are at your finger tips with frequent bus service and a nearby tube station.
Visitors are steps from The Royal Albert Hall, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Natural History and Science Museums and Hyde Park is a short stroll through some of Knightsbridge's swankiest neighborhoods.
Key to the mother-daughter stay is Egerton House's family-friendly approach. Despite the finery in the small dining area of the charming basement restaurant, waitstaff caters to children and their sometimes-finicky tastes.
While dining in the restaurant is a must, dining en suite is encouraged and there's no extra charge to have your breakfast in bed. The breakfast of your heart's desires can be delivered to your room while you languish in your cozy bed or curl up on an oversize couch. There are also a number of nearby restaurants that line the busy high street. Check out Indian, Thai, Italian, Mediterranean and more just steps from your room.
My daughter and I visited the property after a whirlwind tour through Ireland and spent two nights at the hotel, enjoying the friendly service and taking our time soaking up the spacious, cozy room and relaxing before heading home.
