The Jesuit Missions Museum here includes ancient garments, paintings, sculptures, photographs and artifacts—and details how missionaries arrived in Baja in the 17th century, when it was home to roughly 40,000 native inhabitants.

Visitors also love Loreto for its shopping, with a wide variety of unique artisan stores, featuring authentic Mexican handicrafts, silver jewelry, contemporary and abstract art, clay pieces, intricately carved wooden works, and colorful fabrics.
