Caregivers need to be cared for as well.

Travel Planners International details how important it is for a caregiver to travel, with or without the one they care for.

Ideally, a caregiver and his or her "caree" travel together, though, and one terrific way to do just that is by taking a cruise. Other solid travel options include going to the beach or a quick weekend getaway to a nearby destination you've been wanting to visit.

Chris MacLellan, also known as "The Bow Tie Guy", became a caregiver in 2011 when his wife was diagnosed with cancer.

He told TPI, "It's not as difficult for caregivers to travel as they may think it would be. With modern technology and what's available on ships today, caregivers can travel with their "caree" - it can be an enjoyable trip for both of them. Oxygen is readily available on ships. Motorized wheelchairs are readily available. There are cabins that are handicapped accessible. Caregivers can take their "caree" on a trip they can both enjoy. They can be pampered in ways that beats the day-to-day routine that you have at home."

If you are a caregiver and can get permission from a doctor to travel with your "caree" then definitely do so.

If that isn't the case, there is nothing wrong with self-care for caregivers. Stepping out and seeing the world can be a great refresher.

But, we certainly hope you'll be able to travel with the one you care for. A break from the norm can do wonders for the mind, body and soul. Traveling can be therapeutic for all.
